Utrecht

Impressively Old

Utrecht is, with her rich and historic downtown, one of the oldest cities in The Netherlands. Over 3.000 monuments are maintained and the canals in and around the city give the centre a distinctive character.

When you walk along the canals you’ll find lots of bars and restaurants in the wharves that were used for loading and unloading ships and the storage of goods in the Middle Ages. The Dom is the greatest medieval church in Utrecht, there are many other churches that can be found in the old inner-city.

Museums

When you want to visit a nice museum ‘Miffy Museum’ can be recommended. This is a museum that attracts hordes of tourists which is not weird because the maker of Miffy, Dick Bruna, grew up in Utrecht.
Other museums in Utrecht are: the Central Museum, the railway museum, St Catherine’s Convent and the museum of musical instruments.

Young City

Utrecht has more than 70.000 students which makes the population of the city relatively young. You can see that in the many activities organized in the city. In the old inner-city you find lots of nice shops, cinema’s and bars. Also, Utrecht is known for their student organizations in all sorts and sizes and lots of cultural activities, sports and recreation can be found in Utrecht such as: The Dutch Film festival and Cultural Sunday.
